Apple is aiming to expand its technology into the health sector. While the Apple Watch already collects health information like heart rate and blood oxygen levels, the company is now looking to turn its AirPods into health-tracking devices. However, Apple’s focus doesn’t stop there—it plans to analyze the collected data with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and make recommendations to improve users’ health.

A new project underway at the company, known internally as “Project Mulberry” or “Health+,” is focused on developing an AI-powered health coaching service. For this project, Apple has hired medical experts who are training AI agents and creating video content that describes health problems and suggests ways to solve them. The company hopes that this AI coach will be able to provide users with personalized health advice using data collected from the Apple Watch, AirPods, and other third-party devices.

When it comes to AirPods, Apple is also making plans to turn them into even more advanced health devices. In addition to features like heart rate monitoring and body temperature sensing, the company has filed patents to add the ability to track fitness metrics like gait stability or breathing patterns. While these ideas are still in their early stages, AirPods could play a key role in health tracking in the future.

Apple is not yet fully committed to AI. While the "Apple Intelligence" announced during the iPhone 16 launch last year introduced some features, they have not yet reached the level the company had hoped for.

Currently, this technology can do things like notification abstraction, smart text replies, and deleting unnecessary photos. However, plans to turn Siri into a capable AI assistant have been delayed. A new Siri is expected to be released next year, but this has also brought to the fore coordination issues between some teams within the company.

Apple is likely to announce its new health plans and iOS 19 features at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The event could bring more clarity on Apple's health goals and AI-driven future.
